-Tomek Sętowski. Paintings, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, July 1 - 30, 2006.
Tomasz Sętowski's exhibition was noted in the local press. The fairy-tale style of his paintings was warmly received in Dubai, to which the artist returned with exhibitions four more times.
In Sętowski's works, in addition to the obvious fairy-tale aura, one can see Renaissance constructions in building the form of individual elements, simultaneous arrangements of scenes, always outside of internally consistent time, a horizon shifted upward, allowing compositional shots from an upper oblique perspective, or distant unreal horizon, as well as references to the Baroque - through swirled arrangements, light and climaxes, athectonic nature of architectural motifs, reversal of perspective, consideration of the elements (water, earth, air), repetition of the same characteristic motifs in subsequent works: angels, gates, fantastic buildings, anthropomorphized fish, dogs, birds, temptress-clowns, women. (...) Tomek Sętowski subordinated the meticulousness of the descriptive form to an imagination that shatters all hierarchies and conventions, and his paintings, saturated with melancholy and subtle eroticism, introduce the fairy-tale world of daydreams, or perhaps.... of real desires and experiences?
