Czeslaw Rzepinski (Strusow near Trembowla 1905 - Cracow 1995) began his studies at the Ludwika Mehoffer Free School of Painting in 1923. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow from 1925 to 1929, and finally at the Paris Branch of the Academy of Fine Arts, led by Professor Jozef Pankiewicz. From 1931 he exhibited with the "Zwornik" group. In 1945-1947, he was president of ZPAP. He also worked as an educator, including running courses for drawing teachers at the Krzemieniec High School (1935-1939), and from 1945 until his retirement in 1973 he taught at his alma mater, from 1948 as a professor. From 1954 to 1967 he was rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. In his painting he referred to the tradition of Post-Impressionism. Throughout his life, he was a consistent colorist, treating the motif or subject of a painting as a pretext for free play of colors and sometimes decorative solutions, which was facilitated by his characteristic handling of the brush with small, circular movements. Contributing to the popularization of Rzepinski's art was Wieslaw Ochman, a devoted collector of his works.
