Heinrich von Rustige (Werl /North Rhine-Westphalia/ 1810 - Stuttgart 1900) - German painter. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf under Wilhelm Schadow (from 1828). After his studies, in 1836 he moved to Frankfurt, from where he often went on numerous study trips, including to Vienna and Hungary, Dresden, Berlin and France and England. In 1845 he became a professor at the Art School (Kunstschule) in Stuttgart where he taught until 1887. He was also director of the State Gallery (Staatsgalerie) of Württemberg there. For his contributions to art and science, he was made an honorary citizen of his hometown of Werl in 1890. He painted primarily historical and genre paintings (The Flood, Prince Alva at Rudolstadt Castle, Two Italian Women) as well as portraits and landscapes. The largest collection of the artist's works is held by the Werl Museum. His works are also in other German museums, including the National Gallery in Berlin and the Museum in Sttutgart. Rustige was also a poet - a lyricist and author of historical dramas, as well as humorous poems.
