Walter Heimig (Wesel 1880 - Bad Ems 1955) - German painter and lithographer; studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf under professors Claus Meyer and Eduard von Gebhardt. Later he received further training in Paris. During World War I he served in the army on the Eastern Front. During this time he made many drawings with humorous overtones. From 1907 he participated in the Great Berlin Art Exhibitions, the annual exhibitions in Düsseldorf, and also exhibited at the Glaspalast in Munich, Cologne, Wiesbaden, Stuttgart. He painted altar paintings for churches, including Christ Crucified for the church in Vohl-Marienhagen. He also painted colorful landscapes, marinas, nudes and figural scenes, including distinctive ladies in crinolines, paintings distinguished by their refined color scheme, a distant reference to 18th century Venetian painting (Pietro Longhi). The artist's paintings are in the collection of the Düsseldorf museum, among others.
