Wojciech Sudmak (Wieluń 1942, lives in Paris) - painter and sculptor. In 1956-1961 he studied at the High School of Fine Arts in Warsaw , and then studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. In September 1966, he left for Paris and began studying at the École des Beaux-Arts. He lives and works in France. He is considered a leading representative of fantasy realism. This trend, combining surreal vision with naturalistic art, has its roots in Surrealism represented by S. Dali, R. Magritte and G. de Chirico, among others.

The source of inspiration for the artist is the art of the Renaissance and Baroque, the works of Bernini, G. B.Tiepolo, H. Bosch, G. Arcimboldo, Michelangelo. He is also fascinated by painters of the 19th century: Dominique Ingres, William Blake, Arnold Bocklin and the Surrealists. Wojciech Siudmak's work is appreciated by numerous publishers and film directors associated with the science fiction trend, including the latest screen adaptation of Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" (prod. 2021), which was inspired by him. Among the famous cartoon series - in addition to "Dune" by F. Herbert - include series devoted to Cervantes' "Don Quixote," the works of Philip K. Dick and the "Nocturnes" of F. Chopin. The artist is also the author of the "Eternal Love" monument commemorating the outbreak of World War II in Wieluń, as well as the initiator of the Peace Project, which rewards outstanding personalities of merit to the global idea of peace. The year 2022 marks the inauguration of a series of retrospective exhibitions of Wojciech Siudmak's paintings and sculpture, the first of which will be held at the Caro Villa, a branch of the Gliwice Museum. Subsequent planned exhibitions are: Gdansk, Warsaw, Krakow. A documentary film directed by Emilia Sadowska is currently being made about Wojciech Siudmak, as well as an autobiography to be published by Rebis.
