Antoni Fałat studied at the Faculty of Painting and Graphics of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He received his diploma with honors from Aleksander Kobzdej in 1969. He was a co-founder of the "Aut" group and the artistic movement "About Improvement." He is one of the most prominent painters who debuted in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He represented an original variety of photo-realism, taking as a model for his paintings old, 19th-century photographs from family albums. The nostalgic expression of the works, their monochromatic (with a predominance of blacks and blues) colors, and above all their reference to private, domestic traditions, which are also national traditions - these are the features of the great painting series "Polish Portraits" (1969-74). In later years, the artist diversified the color scheme of his paintings, and more often introduced touches of irony and humor. Since his debut in 1968, he has exhibited many times individually and at collective reviews, winning many awards, such as the Gold Medal at the Third Festival of Fine Arts, Warsaw 1970, first prize at the exhibition "Hunting in the Visual Arts", Warsaw 1976, first equal prize in the competition "Bielska Jesien 91" and others. In 1992 he established the European Academy of Arts in Warsaw, which he still heads. In 1992-1996 he was a member of the Council of Culture to the President of the Republic of Poland. In 1997 he received the Medal of the Commission of National Education for special merits for education and upbringing. In addition to painting, he is involved in drawing, applied graphics and artistic textiles.
