Franciszek Maśluszczak studied at the Faculty of Graphics of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, from which he graduated in 1974. Since 1975 he has been teaching at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology. Since 1970 he has collaborated as a graphic designer and illustrator with magazines, including Ty i Ja, Literatura, Szpilki, Sztuka, Polityka, Tygodnik Literacki, Gazeta Wyborcza, Rzeczpospolita and Arkusz. He belonged to a wide range of artists who co-founded the phenomenon known as the new figuration of the 1970s, the "New Expression" generation or the "For Improvement" movement. He had many solo exhibitions and also exhibited many times in group shows at home and abroad. He gained popularity and reputation with his distinctive paintings, usually small in size, depicting figural scenes featuring characters with a familiar fairground-grotesque look. In the 1980s, the artist joined the movement of independent artistic life, taking part in exhibitions in private studios, among others. In addition to painting and drawing, Maśluszczak creates book illustrations (Jeremi Przybora, "Cabaret of Even Older Gentlemen," 1980; Ryszard Schubert, "Panna Lilianka," 1983; Rena Marciniak, "Wedding on the Rubble of Warsaw," 1990; Roald Dahl, "Wielkomilud," 1991; Agnieszka Taborska, "Die Mondgeister," 1996; "In Raspberry Jam," 1996), he also designs covers and posters. He is the author of the altar painting in the Franciscan Church in Warsaw. His work is represented in leading museum collections in the country, as well as in Tokyo and Ghent.
