The photograph of the stairs in Dubrovnik was taken by the author in 1973 during one of the several days she was there on business. Well, in 1970 she accepted an assignment from the "American Express" company to take a series of photos in various countries around the world for their "Annual Reports"; the photos were to be for the bank's management (company offices, etc.) and more touristic, landscape photos. She made the trip around the world to the designated locations in 23 days. When she was with a solo art trip in Italy in 1973 "American Express" somehow found out about it, they called and asked if she would go to Dubrovnik in Yugoslavia to take pictures for them there:
- "Of course I would! - I thought, I had never been there, but I knew it was a beautiful place, without cars like Venice. And of course it was: a beautiful, pink city, not big, you could easily walk so I carried four cameras to be able to take various photos, so for them needed for the assignment, but also for myself."
As for the photo of the stairs. The author recalls that she saw the light on those stairs, and knew it wouldn't last very long. But she was waiting for something or someone to add something to that light, some element, for something to happen, for there to be something more to the photo than a simple light on the stairs. And after a while she saw a man walking in the distance, bent over, approaching in that direction, and she thought:
- I beg you, come up and climb those stairs! And he "heard" me....
In Dubrovnik, Ms. Ewa then spent several days.
