The portrait is from a photo session taken, perhaps in the fall of 1969, at the Drake Hotel in New York, where the Rubinsteins stayed during their sojourn in the United States and in this city. At the time, the artist took a series of photographs in various shots and poses of the pianist, large prints like this one (34.7 x 25.7 cm and similar in format) had an edition of up to 3-5 copies. Several portraits of Artur Rubinstein taken at the time were obtained by the Artur Rubinstein Foundation and donated to charity auctions associated with the Rubinstein Piano Festivali. The portrait (print) on display belongs to one of the last original paper pieces from that 1969 New York session.
